Does this trade make sense for the Sacramento Kings?
Damian Jones is not part of the Sacramento Kings main rotation and he is nothing more than the “third or fourth string center,” so why not move him for some value? At the end of the season, Jones is going to be a free agent that the Kings likely will not bring back.
Getting a second-round pick and a veteran for the young center definitely makes sense for the Kings because of the fact that they do not use Jones. Whether it is Kent Bazemore, Wayne Ellington, Rajon Rondo or someone else, Sacramento would basically have their pick of which Los Angeles Lakers’ veteran they could get.
In terms of getting something for nothing, this trade does make sense for the Kings, but they don’t have a great relationship with the Lakers’ front-office right now after their offseason trade fell through.
Prior to this season, the Kings were progressing towards a trade with the Lakers to move Buddy Hield for a trade package that included the likes of Kyle Kuzma and Montrezl Harrell, but the Lakers decided to opt out of this deal last-minute, instead trading these two guys and others to the Wizards for Russell Westbrook.
LATEST NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Lakers’ Anthony Davis Gets Real About Dealing With Injuries
If the Kings’ front-office is still holding a grudge over the Lakers for this missed opportunity then they may not be so willing to just give up Damian Jones and help Los Angeles in the absence of Anthony Davis.
After all, the Sacramento Kings really do not have much to gain from this trade, so it is not like they would be missing out big time if they let their emotions dictate whether or not they made this deal.
