The San Antonio Spurs picked up an impressive victory over the LA Clippers during Monday night’s NBA action in one of the final games at Staples Center before it is officially renamed. The Spurs won the game 116-92, recording a few eye-popping statistics along the way.

To score those 116 points, the Spurs attempted 114 shot attempts. It is the most shot attempts in a game under head coach Gregg Popovich in his career on the sidelines. They made only 43.9 percent of those shot attempts, which is why they were able to put up such gaudy rebounding numbers.

San Antonio pulled down 23 offensive rebounds with seven players having at least two. Those were the most offensive rebounds in a game for the Spurs since 2006 according to ESPN’s Stats & Information research.

It was something that left Clippers’ head coach Ty Lue perplexed. LA is without some of their depth in the frontcourt, but to give up rebounds and allow second chances at that rate is unacceptable.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that before,” Lue said of the Spurs’ total field goal attempts and offensive rebounds. “… It was a layup drill, floater drill, a walk in the park. We’ve got to look in the mirror, all of us, and come back with a physicality on Wednesday night or it’ll be the same result.”

The Spurs outrebounded the Clippers 67-43 in the game, racking up 27 second-chance points compared to five for the Clippers. San Antonio decimated them in the paint, scoring 68 points in the restricted area while LA scored only 44.

Leading the way on the glass for the Spurs were Dejounte Murray and Keldon Johnson, who pulled down 12 apiece. Murray also led the team in scoring and assists, recording his sixth triple-double of the season with 24 points and 13 assists. He also added four steals.

Johnson recorded a double-double with 12 points to go with his rebounds. A third starter, Jakob Poeltl, also double-doubled. The Spurs’ starting center had his way with the LA Clippers, scoring 17 points with 11 rebounds.

All in all, eight San Antonio Spurs pulled down at least four rebounds as they crashed the boards aggressively, helping lead to a blowout victory on the road.
