Would this trade make sense for the Boston Celtics?
The Boston Celtics have previously had the option of adding Myles Turner via trade in the past but a deal never ended up getting done. Now, the Celtics still face a need to add more impactful talents but while Sabonis hasn’t been floated around in much for trade talks, could he be the right choice?
While there are clear limitations to what Domantas Sabonis brings to the table defensively for any team, his ability to serve as somewhat of a fulcrum for a half-court offense could help a team needing ball movement.
Sabonis is far from being a Nikola Jokic level passer, but having him to orchestrate DHOs or set ball screens could help to reduce the amount of tough shots the Celtics get within the half-court.
Sabonis is signed to a favorable contract and that’s something the Celtics need considering Al Horford’s robust salary along with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown signed to big deals.

It will become simpler for the Celtics once Horford’s deal expires after the season — clearing his $26.5 million in salary. Boston could let Horford walk after the season while Sabonis is the long-term center answer.
