Does this trade make sense for the Los Angeles Lakers?

Trading for Jeff Green would be a great move for the Lakers to make because of his versatility as a forward. Now in his 14th NBA season, Green has played for 11 different teams and everywhere he has been, his role has been different.

Early on in his career with the Supersonics/Thunder, Green was utilized as a scoring weapon. As he got older, he began to make a difference off-the-bench as a scorer and over more recent seasons, teams like the Jazz, Rockets and Nets have utilized him as a “3-and-D” type of player that can guard numerous different positions.

Green is athletic enough to guard some of his opponent’s best players, which is why he would be heavily utilized in Los Angeles. The Lakers do not really have a “stopper” on the perimeter defensively right now and as a team, they rank 13th in the league in three-point shooting percentage.

Needing another dynamic defender and someone who can knock down shots from the perimeter, Jeff Green is the perfect trade target for the Lakers because he is affordable and brings years of experience with him.

When the Lakers decide to go “small” and play undersized lineups, Jeff Green would have no problem being the center in some rotations and in other rotations, he could be a three-point shooting threat on the perimeter.

For his career, Green has shot 34% from three-point range and is currently shooting just under 33% from deep this season. Maybe time is finally starting to catch up to the veteran forward, but he can still be a difference-maker on a playoff contending team like the Lakers.
