Just 16-13 so far this season, this is not the Los Angeles Lakers team that was advertised at the beginning of the 2021-22 NBA season. LeBron James has looked good, but then again, he has only played in 17 of his team’s 29 games due to injuries.
Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook have both struggled here and there to begin the season and as for the rest of the roster… well they look old! The Lakers came into the season as one of the oldest teams in NBA history and it is definitely showing to this point in the season.
Lack of chemistry is one thing, but durability and hustle are two things that the Lakers cannot really control. This team always seems to get out hustled in transition this season, which is rare to see given that the Lakers have been one of the best defensive teams over the years.
Los Angeles is going to have to make a move at the trade deadline this season to add some more versatile talent to their roster because their bench has been inconsistent and outside of LeBron James, who does this team really have on the wing?

Adding another versatile forward, who can also play multiple positions in “small-ball” lineups could go a long way in the Lakers rekindling some of their success from their recent championship season, which is why going out and trading for Jeff Green is a move that could make a ton of sense.
After spending last season in Brooklyn, Jeff Green signed a two-year, $9M contract with the Denver Nuggets this past offseason. So far in 28 games this season, almost half of which he has come off-the-bench in, Green has averaged 9.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and has shot 48.4% from the floor.
Standing 6’8” and having a strong frame, Green has played multiple positions through the years, including being the center for the Nets at times last season. In Los Angeles, he could fill many different roles for this team and not only be a three-point shooting threat, but a really strong defender out on the perimeter as well, something the Lakers are missing right now.

Given the Nuggets’ injuries and all the players they have missing, maybe they will be hesitant to give up Jeff Green in a trade, but the Lakers could have a young talent they would be interested in adding for some much needed depth.
