Does this trade make sense for the New York Knicks?

Getting rid of Kemba Walker’s contract now makes the most sense for the New York Knicks as a franchise, especially if they have no plans of incorporating him back into their rotations. With Derrick Rose, Alec Burks and Immanuel Quickley, there really is no need for them to want to keep Walker after how he began the season.

His value is going to be extremely low and his trade market will be as well, but if the Knicks can turn him and a first-round pick into Cam Reddish and Delon Wright, this is probably the best deal they can hope for.

Delon Wright is owed basically the same amount of Kemba Walker this season, but he is a better guard for the Knicks not only because he is in the final year of his contract, but because he has proven to be effective coming off-the-bench over the years.

Since the start of the 2019-20 season, Delon Wright has come off-the-bench in 72.5% of the total games he has played in and has averaged 7.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and has shot 37.1% from three-point range.

Not only can Wright create for himself, but he can create space for others, which is vital in this Knicks system that has Julius Randle and R.J. Barrett has downhill drivers towards the rim offensively.

As for Cam Reddish, he is another scorer this team could have on their bench and he is a pretty good one to have.

Since entering the league in 2019, Reddish has averaged 10.8 points while shooting 32.1% from three-point range. Averaging a career-high 37% from deep this season, Reddish is already showing off some of the improvements he has made in his game and the 22-year-old wing is only going to get better.

While there would be concerns about whether or not they could keep him long-term, Cam Reddish is absolutely the kind of player the Knicks should want to add on the wing because of the potential he presents as a “3-and-D” type of player.

He can shoot, score in the paint and possesses a 7’1” wingspan, making him everything New York needs in a young player on the wing. Reddish would join a young core of Immanuel Quickley, Obi Toppin, Quentin Grimes and others presenting a lot of future success for this organization.

Should this trade be available, the New York Knicks should pull-the-trigger, but it is hard to imagine the Atlanta Hawks will be interested in Kemba Walker.
