Minnesota Timberwolves

Having one of the best scoring trios in the league in Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards, and D’Angelo Russell, the Minnesota Timberwolves are currently 11-14 on the season and look like a team that could threaten for a playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The Timberwolves have only been to the playoffs once since the start of the 2004-05 season, but with new ownership coming in and this young team beginning to take the next step, now is the time for them to try and win games en route to the playoffs.

This team is tight on cap space, but they have a lot of moveable contracts and ways that they could look to acquire another high-level talent, Malik Beasley ($14.3M), Taurean Prince ($13M), and Jake Layman ($3.9M) are three players they could utilize in trades because of their salaries and both Josh Okgoie ($4M) and Jaden McDaniels ($2M) are young assets with value.

Trading D’Angelo Russell also remains a possibility, but the Timberwolves would probably prefer to keep D-Lo unless they were to acquire another All-Star in a trade. Maybe this All-Star could be Domantas Sabonis from the Pacers, but it is much more likely that Minnesota could acquire Myles Turner.

The Timberwolves are just the latest team rumored to be interested in him and The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski stated recently on his podcast that Turner is a player Minnesota should consider trading for.

“A big man is definitely needed and the Timberwolves know it. The one thing about this front office and this coaching staff is right now is even though they might performing above expectations to what fans would expect, to what the league would expect. They know that they have a lot to work on, they know that the roster isn’t perfect, they know that they need a lot help. So its not like they are sitting this out and saying “We’re fine, we’re gonna go for it.”

“The Timberwolves are also looking at the trade market, in attempt to buy a playoff push. One player Minnesota appears to have interest in is Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers.”

Through his career, Myles Turner has always been a consistent player that has only improved defensively, but he has always been underutilized on offense by the Indiana Pacers. He has averaged 12.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and has shot 48.9% from the floor for his career, but his career usage percentage is only around 19%.

Utilized mainly in pick-and-roll threats as a three-point shooter, Turner never really gets his chances to be a real two-way threat in Indiana. With the Timberwolves however, he could not only be an anchor for them defensively, but help them clean the offensive glass and create second-chance scoring opportunities in the paint.

Both Myles Turner and Karl-Anthony Towns together in the Timberwolves frontcourt not only gives them arguably the best frontcourt duo in the league, but two guys who can be relied upon on either side of the floor.

Minnesota wants to be in a “win-now” position and on a favorable contract, Myles Turner gives them a chance to finally put together a winning season and make the playoffs in the Western Conference.
