Does this trade make sense for the Indiana Pacers?

Right now, the Indiana Pacers are teetering on the brink of disaster and quite honestly, bringing in Rick Carlisle to be the new head coach this past offseason really has not made a difference for this organization. Carlisle is one of the best coaches in the NBA, but in this case for the Pacers, they simply do not have the right personnel to be a threat in the Eastern Conference.

It is not fair to compare them to the Sacramento Kings since that franchise has been in disarray for years, but they kind of are like the Kings of the Eastern Conference because of the fact that they have a lot of talented players, but nothing really clicks for this group.

Sacramento has a really strong looking core group of guys, but wins have been hard to come by and they just do not look like a team sometimes on the basketball court.

The same can be said about this Pacers team as Brogdon, Sabonis, Turner and LeVert are all high-level talents, but they do not necessarily fit in with one another, hence why this team has struggled a lot over the years.

Finally hitting the “reset” button and starting over may be a great thing for this organization to do right now, especially since they are not in a position to contend in the Eastern Conference. They just extended Malcolm Brogdon long-term, so he is not going anywhere anytime soon, but T.J. Warren is in the final year of his contract, Myles Turner is under contract through next season and Domantas Sabonis is under contract through 2023.

The Indiana Pacers have no cap space, no great secondary talents and they are not the high-level team they should be right now, which is why capitalizing on some of their player’s value while they are at all-time highs could make a lot of sense.

They are not going to be trading Domantas Sabonis this year, but if they did, the Indiana Pacers could be getting a grand return in this trade with the Golden State Warriors. James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody are all high-level prospects that this team could pair with guys like Malcolm Brogdon, Chris Duarte and whoever else for the future.

By making this trade, the Pacers would have to get rid of two players on their roster, but they would likely have no problem either finding teams to take Jeremy Lamb and either Brad Wanamaker or Oshae Brissett.

At this point, finding upside and potential needs to be the main priority of the Indiana Pacers, especially since they have no room to make big deals to acquire more talent. It is possible that we could see them leverage Myles Turner in a “last ditch effort” to turn things around this season, but this trade offers too much future potential for Indiana to turn down.
