Does this trade make sense for the Minnesota Timberwolves?
Winning is the only thing that matters right now in Minnesota and the Minnesota Timberwolves management seems committed to making sure this team has a real chance to make the playoffs this season.
The Timberwolves have only been to the playoffs once (2018) since the start of the 2004-05 season and this is a narrative they are looking to change. Minnesota has been at the bottom of the Western Conference standings for too long and with new ownership coming in, they are looking to prove that they can be a competitive team for many years to come.
Nothing would prove this more than going out and trading for one of the best pure talents in the NBA in Kyrie Irving.
There would definitely be a lot of baggage and negative attention that would come with trading for Irving, but at the same time, his contributions on the court would silence all of this negative energy.

One of the best guards of this generation, Kyrie Irving can score, create for others and most importantly, would give the Minnesota Timberwolves that extra spark that they are currently missing in their “Big 3” right now.
Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns are athletic players that can create for themselves and get going, but D’Angelo Russell is somewhat limited to what he can do because he is not the best three-point shooter and since injuries have taken away part of his mobility.
Kyrie Irving could not only make the Minnesota Timberwolves a better offensive team, but he would open the door for Edwards and Towns to both be better offensively because of all the attention Irving draws when on the court.
There is no denying that he is a better guard than that of D’Angelo Russell and having championship experience from when he was with the Cavaliers in 2016, Irving checks off all the boxes for what the Timberwolves need in a third star player.

If this opportunity comes their way, the Minnesota Timberwolves may be hesitant at first, but this is absolutely a trade they should look to make, even if they would only get Kyrie Irving for one year.
