At 11-12, the Minnesota Timberwolves do not seem like they are a great team in the NBA, but there is definitely a lot to like about this team’s chances of possibly making it to the playoffs this season. Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards and D’Angelo Russell have been one of the better scoring trios in the entire league this season, but this team is still lacking overall depth.

When healthy, Patrick Beverley has made a positive difference for this team, as has fourth-year forward Jarred Vanderbilt, but this team’s frontcourt is still a mess. Outside of Towns, they really do not have any big guys who are legit scoring threats with the ball in their hands and while Jaden McDaniels, Naz Reid and Jarred Vanderbilt have all played their roles, the next step for this team is going to be solidifying things in their frontcourt.

Now all the way up to 8th in the league in defensive rating, the Timberwolves are continuing to create their identity on the defensive-end of the floor, hence why adding another defensive-minded big man could be what this front-office has in mind leading up to the trade deadline.

Karl-Anthony Towns cannot do everything on his own in the paint, which is why Myles Turner is a name that has constantly been brought up in trade rumors pertaining to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Turner is now in his 7th NBA season and since entering the league in 2015, he has been one of the best defensive centers. The Pacers’ big man has led the league in blocks per game two of the last three seasons and through 24 games this year, Myles Turner is once again leading the league in blocked shots, averaging 2.8 blocks per game.

The Indiana Pacers are in disarray right now as a franchise and things continue to trend downwards for them after a very poor start to the 2021-22 season. They are currently 9-16 and while Turner is an anchor for their defense, his role on this team is very limited.

Indiana does not utilize him enough on the offensive-end of the floor and while he has been great defensively for them, he only has one more year left on his contract after this season and is very moveable given interest around the league in him.

Making just $17.5M both this season and next season, there will be plenty of teams inquiring about Turner once again leading up to the trade deadline, the Minnesota Timberwolves being one of those teams.

While they do have Karl-Anthony Towns at center, creating a “one-two punch” of Turner and Towns in the frontcourt could help the Timberwolves sustain success on the defensive-end of the floor and take a step closer to making it back to the playoffs.
