How does the Russell Westbrook grade out for the Los Angeles Lakers right now?
This is a trade that would not make the honor roll. In fact, it would be hard to move it along to the next grade.
So let’s take a closer look. The Lakers downgraded defensively by adding Westbrook and took on his contract. Los Angeles filled out the roster with small contracts by mostly veteran players.
To top it off, they traded three productive players who could have made an impact this season. We know why this happened. The NBA has turned into a league where stars come together in order to win championships. On paper, it is a nice thought but this one has not worked out well.
This is not to say that the Lakers will not end up winning a championship or will fall apart completely. The season is just a quarter of the way through and there is plenty of time to turn it around.
