Does this trade make sense for the New Orleans Pelicans?
As Favale mentions, Jeremy Lamb does not help the New Orleans Pelicans’ 27th rated defense in any way, but he could wind up giving them a boost on offense. New Orleans currently sits 26th in offensive rating and 17th in team three-point shooting percentage, two areas in which Lamb has been known to help his teams throughout his career.
Last season, Jeremy Lamb shot 40.6% from three-point range in 36 total games and so far this year, Lamb is shooting 39.6% from three-point range on 48 total attempts.
While the sample size is small, Jeremy Lamb has always been a consistent threat to score and can have games like he did against the Hornets a few weeks ago when he scored 23 points on 4-7 shooting from deep.
By making this trade, the Pelicans would be signifying that they are not giving up on the season just yet, which could wind up sparking a fire within this team. At this point, they really do not have anything to lose and they should be getting better whenever Zion Williamson returns to action.

Williamson has yet to make his season debut with the team due to offseason foot surgery, but he has since been cleared to begin ramping up his intensity in terms of practice and team activities. With Zion expected to return within the next month, the Pelicans could definitely begin to trend in the right direction standings wise.
This team is still far away from being anything significant in the Western Conference and by trading for Jeremy Lamb, all of their problems will not be fixed, but they would be getting an experienced veteran who has shown the ability to score in many different ways.

The Pelicans just need guys who they can rely on to score, especially in their second-unit, which is why giving up Tomas Satoransky for Jeremy Lamb is a move that does in fact make sense. Satoransky and Lamb are both in the final year of their deals, but Lamb offers more of an upside for New Orleans right now.
