It’s clear that something has to change with the Boston Celtics. The team achieved great success early in the Brown-Tatum era. However, the team is regressing on a seemingly annual basis.
There have been no shortage of key players who have departed from the Celtics throughout the last few seasons. Acquiring star players like Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward did not end up being long-term solutions.
The Kemba Walker experiment didn’t pan out after his knee concerns worsened. Dennis Schroder has been solid but it will be almost surely too challenging for the Celtics to retain him due to financial limitations.
Marcus Smart isn’t equipped to be a high-level starting point guard in the NBA due to the limitations in his offensive skill-set. The Celtics will need to look elsewhere for a long-term solution.

The real question is, would giving up Jaylen Brown for a point guard really solve much of anything for the Celtics? It’s clear they need a different option at that position, but there are far more issues that need to be changed — including the approach of Jayson Tatum.
De’Aaron Fox has limitations in his offensive skill-set with his inability to convert pull-up jumpers at a high clip. He is a competitor defensively and can get into the paint, but this doesn’t appear to be a great solution.
