Buddy Hield – Sacramento Kings

One of the biggest problems with the Dallas Mavericks right now is that their offense is very dormant at times. Luka Doncic is going to do his thing and get 20-plus points per night, but three-point shooting is definitely a major concern for this team.

Out of the guys on their team with at least 50 three-point attempts on the year, just Luka Doncic (34.1%) is shooting above 34% on the season and as a team, the Mavericks are shooting 33.2% from deep, 9th worst in the NBA.

Adding another perimeter shooting threat to this team could be huge, hence why Buddy Hield is a player they need to have their eyes on. Hield’s situation in Sacramento seems to be okay right now, but not too long ago this past offseason, the Kings had a deal in place to trade him to the Los Angeles Lakers for Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell and others.

Buddy Hield knows the Kings do not want to keep him long-term and with them likely to miss the playoffs for the 16th consecutive season, Hield probably does not want to be there any longer than he has to be either!

Dallas would be a great fit for Buddy Hield not only because of the opportunities for catch-and-shoot threes on the perimeter, but because he would have one of the best passers in the league in Luka Doncic feeding him the basketball.

Doncic is currently averaging 8.3 assists per game this season, 5th best in the NBA, and always tends to do an excellent job of forcing opposing teams to collapse on him when he is driving down the lane. This opens up plenty of opportunities on the perimeter for the Mavericks’ shooters, but the problem is that Tim Hardaway Jr. is their only real three-point shooting threat Doncic can find consistently!

By adding Buddy Hield, the Mavericks would have another elite-level shooter on the perimeter who could easily continue averaging at least 4 made three-pointers per game. On the year, Hield has knocked down a total of 85 threes, which ranks only behind Stephen Curry who has made 105 threes.

Being owed $22.4M this season and then being under contract through the 2023-24 season, Buddy Hield would come with some long-term liability, but you know what you are getting from him if you are the Mavericks and moving guys like Dwight Powell ($11M), Reggie Bullock ($9.5M) and Trey Burke ($3.1M) to get him is not a terrible idea whatsoever.

The Dallas Mavericks need more scoring and shooters, which is why Buddy Hield is definitely a strong trade target for them.
