Myles Turner – Indiana Pacers

The best player the Charlotte Hornets could pursue this season is a name that has been brought up time and time again in regards to their organization — Myles Turner. Almost every single year, Turner finds his name on the trade block and the one team that always gets brought up is the Hornets.

This fit seems to make a lot of sense not only because the Hornets need a rim-protector, but because they need an athletic and versatile big man who can mainly play in pick-and-roll sets. Not only is Myles Turner one of the best shot-blockers in the league, but he thrives in pick-and-roll situations on offense because of his ability to step out on the perimeter and shoot threes.

On the year, Turner is averaging 12.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.8 blocks (league-high) and is shooting 39.4% from three-point range, which is currently a career-high. Myles Turner is one of the best defensive centers in the NBA today and has led the league in blocked shots per game in three of the last four seasons.

Looking like he is going to lead the league once again in blocked shots, Turner could very well find his name in the conversation for Defensive Player of the Year when all is said and done this season.

The Charlotte Hornets need a center like this and quite honestly, Myles Turner would not be hard to acquire financially. Being owed just $17.5M this season and next season, Turner is on a very favorable contract, but the question that is presented to the Hornets in this scenario is what would they have to give up to acquire him from the Pacers?

Indiana is currently 9-14 and with them also in the hunt for a playoff spot, they may not want to give up Turner to the Hornets and make them a better team.

While they would likely be open to a trade involving Myles Turner, the Pacers are going to want a ton of value in return for him, which could force the Hornets to have to give up either Gordon Hayward or Miles Bridges.

Is this investment truly worthwhile for the Charlotte Hornets?

Given their success early on this season, maybe they would not want to give up either guys for Myles Turner, but all-in-all, he is the perfect fit at the center position for this team.

Verdict: Pursue
