2. Tyrese Haliburton
If the Sacramento Kings are going to make a splash trade for an All-Star, as they were rumored to be attempting to do in the offseason, they are going to have to part ways with some of their more valuable assets. One of those assets is guard Tyrese Haliburton.
Haliburton was the No. 12 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. It was a bit of a peculiar pick, given that the team’s best player, De’Aaron Fox, is entrenched as the starting point guard. It became even more of a head-scratcher when the Kings tripled down on the point guard spot, selecting Davion Mitchell 9th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft.
Tyrese Haliburton is producing at a similar level in his sophomore season as he did as a rookie. But, he has started all 15 games he has appeared in thus far this season, which is where an issue could be rising.
According to sources, there is growing concern about the long-term fit and comfortability of Fox playing alongside Haliburton. De’Aaron Fox is having a down season and, coincidentally, two of his best games of the season came when Haliburton was out of the lineup.

If there are chemistry issues between the two, the Kings could become more open to the idea of moving on from Haliburton. When Ben Simmons rumors swirled involving the Kings, De’Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton were both off the table.
If there is a question of his long-term fit with the team, they could soften their stance on that front, especially if it means landing someone such as Simmons in the deal.
