Does this trade make sense for the Detroit Pistons?

Kelly Olynyk being out definitely makes things more difficult for the Detroit Pistons and while this opens the door for Isaiah Stewart to get more playing time, they don’t really have any frontcourt depth right now. Rookie Luka Garza will likely benefit from Olynyk being out as well, but adding Favors definitely brings some upside to this organization.

Throughout his entire career, Derrick Favors has always been a reliable rebounder and he could provide the Pistons with a lot of stability in the paint on both ends of the floor. For his career, Favors is averaging 7.2 rebounds per game and he is averaging 2.5 offensive rebounds per game.

These extra offensive possessions definitely bring value to whatever team he is on and while the Pistons are not going to be special this year, Favors could definitely be a strong mentor for Isaiah Stewart to learn from because there are similarities between both of their games.

Stewart is that traditional “bruiser-like” center that we used to see in the NBA and does all of his work in the paint on both ends of the court. Being able to learn from a strong rebounder and paint player like Favors could really help his development moving forward.

Cory Joseph and Josh Jackson are two solid bench players for this team, but neither present much of an upside moving forward. They are two guys who will not be retained by the Pistons when their contracts run out, hence why Detroit should try to move them and at least get some value for them.

Getting other young talents and draft picks should be the Detroit Pistons main priority right now, but adding Favors for some stability in their frontcourt definitely makes sense at a small price.
