How This Trade Impacts Minnesota Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves are receiving the most players in this deal, which makes sense as they are parting ways with arguably the best player in Karl-Anthony Towns. They do not want to trade Towns, but if they do, this is a package that would help ease the pain of losing a franchise player.
The Timberwolves would be reloading with a roster better equipped to grow along with Anthony Edwards and D’Angelo Russell. Ben Simmons could be the face of the franchise, if Edwards doesn’t assume that role, and brings a lot to the table that Minnesota needs.
Simmons’s playmaking would be integral to getting this potentially high-powered offense going. He can also set the tone defensively, as Minnesota would now have multiple players that get after it on that end of the court.
Robert Williams III would provide the team with a presence in the middle they do not currently have. He is in the midst of a breakout season and is showing some real promise on offense as well. Matisse Thybulle provides the team with an elite wing defender to offset some of the offensive-minded players they have on the wing.

Minnesota would be able to develop Jaden Springer a little more now than the win-now Philadelphia 76ers can. The first-round pick will likely be later in the round, but is still a solid asset, especially if the front office consolidates some of the pieces and looks to add another All-Star to the mix.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been stuck in neutral for nearly two decades, but this trade would give them a chance to build up and develop a new core that can end their stretch of ineptitude.
