How This Trade Impacts Philadelphia 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers have remained adamant in their asking price for Ben Simmons. They want an impactful, young All-Star caliber player in return. In this three-team deal, they accomplish that.

Jaylen Brown would be an excellent pickup for the 76ers in a return package for Simmons. Brown is a much better fit alongside Joel Embiid on the offensive side, giving Philadelphia an explosive duo with great supporting pieces in Tobias Harris and Tyrese Maxey in the starting five.

While Brown isn’t a point guard, Maxey’s performance lessens the need for one. What Brown does help the Philadelphia 76ers do is replace Simmons’s defensive presence. Brown can lock down any wing that the 76ers are going up against. Philadelphia is also adding a veteran point guard in Patrick Beverley to the mix to help shore things up.

Philadelphia certainly needs those impact defenders as they are moving on from Matisse Thybulle in addition to Ben Simmons. Thybulle is an incredible defender that racks up steals and blocks at a rapid pace.

Unlike a deal for someone such as Damian Lillard or Bradley Beal, the Philadelphia 76ers aren’t blowing all of their depth in this move either. As of now, Thybulle is the only player involved that has been part of the regular rotation this season. Jaden Springer is unlikely to make an impact for Philadelphia in win-now mode and the first-round pick in 2022 will likely meet a similar fate.
