How This Trade Impacts Sacramento Kings
A trade such as this likely means that the Sacramento Kings have fallen out of the playoff race and they’re ready to shake some things up. There is virtually no chance they move on from someone such as Harrison Barnes as long as they are contending for a playoff spot.
Barnes has been easily their best player all season and they cash in on that in this deal. They also move on from Buddy Hield, someone they have been trying to trade for a while now and came close to moving in the offseason to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The only surprise in this deal is Tyrese Haliburton. But, if he and De’Aaron Fox are unable to coexist, it makes sense to move him out for a player that may be a better fit long-term. In this deal, that player is Moses Moody.
Moody has yet to receive much playing time with the Golden State Warriors but has two-way wing potential. He was regarded as one of the better shooters in this year’s draft class and has the size to be a good defender as well. The Arkansas product could be the long-term answer at shooting guard for Sacramento.

James Wiseman is oozing with potential and the headliner in this deal. The Kings just locked Richaun Holmes into a contract extension this most recent offseason, but he doesn’t have the ceiling that Wiseman does.
Andrew Wiggins would help replace some of the production the team is losing by moving on from Barnes. He has had a solid tenure with the Warriors and the Kings will have a chance to see if that is a legitimate improvement or a product of his environment.

They will have this season and next to figure out if he is worth keeping long-term. If he doesn’t fit their vision, he could be used as a trade chip next season as an expiring contract.
