Does this trade make sense for the Detroit Pistons?
Finding ways to continue building for the future is key for the Detroit Pistons and while they have drafted well over the last few seasons, going out and trading for Marvin Bagley III definitely has its advantages for this team if they are willing to pay him long-term.
Afterall, Bagley is a former second overall pick and is a talented player, he just has had trouble remaining on the court due to injuries.
This would be a risk to invest in Marvin Bagley, but if they can verbally agree to a three-year deal worth about $30M-$40M after this season, then the Detroit Pistons should absolutely make this trade.
Being only 22-years-old, Bagley fits this team age-wise and he brings a handful of years experience with him. Being almost the same age as guys the Pistons could draft, they would be getting a young talent who is still looking for his identity in this league that brings NBA experience with him.

This does not come around everyday, which is why Bagley would be a key talent for the Pistons to target sooner than later. As the trade deadline begins to roll around, we could see the Kings’ forward begin to draw interest from several other teams around the league looking to either make a playoff push or solidify their playoff push.
As a result, Marvin Bagley’s value would increase and the Pistons would have to sacrifice more than they would have to if they traded for him right now. Lyles cannot be traded until December 16, but this is definitely a deal Detroit should pursue.
Both Jackson and Lyles hold no long-term future on this young team in Detroit and are nothing more than role players. Bagley can be so much more than this next to Cunningham, Grant and Bey, which is why this is a great deal for Detroit.
The best part about this deal with the Sacramento Kings for the Detroit Pistons is the fact that they would not have to trade a draft pick.
