Does this trade make sense for the Atlanta Hawks?

Moving Cam Reddish is something we will likely see the Atlanta Hawks do this season, but they have to be able to acquire a handful of meaningful assets for him in said trade. They are not just going to trade him for the sake of trading him, which is why this trade with Chicago may not work.

There is definitely a case to be made for Troy Brown Jr. and Alize Johnson being impactful players in the Hawks’ system but at the same time, both guys are nothing more than bench players for the Hawks. Reddish already has a solidified role in this team’s rotation and has emerged as one of their best scorers off the bench.

Neither Brown nor Johnson are going to replicate his kind of offensive production, which is why Atlanta may want to stay away from this deal with Chicago.

The idea of trading Reddish though definitely remains a possibility because they cannot afford to pay everyone.

Trae Young, Clint Capela and John Collins all got big extensions this past offseason and with Reddish’s contract set to expire at the same time as De’Andre Hunter’s, the Hawks may very well have to choose between the two young forwards.

Hunter has obviously outplayed Reddish when he is healthy, which is why Cam Reddish could wind up being the “odd-man-out” in Atlanta. Trading him now while his value is high and while the young forward is playing well makes the most sense for the Hawks.

If another team is to get involved in this trade outlined above, maybe the Hawks would be more willing to talk with Chicago about Reddish, but as of right now, this is definitely not the best deal Atlanta could get for him.

Getting Cam Reddish is not something that would come easy for the Chicago Bulls and the Atlanta Hawks should definitely try to create a bidding war for him ahead of this year’s trade deadline.

Versatile wings on rookie contracts always draw a lot of interest around the league, especially near the trade deadline, which is why the Hawks could eventually get more value in a trade than they had imagined for Cam Reddish.
