Does this trade make sense for the San Antonio Spurs?
Trading away Thaddeus Young is something the San Antonio Spurs will likely wind up doing before the trade deadline, but they are not going to just give him up for nothing. San Antonio is going to want to collect on some future value in a trade involving the veteran forward, but do they necessarily get this from Washington in this deal?
A first-round pick in 2025, even protected Top-8, holds some value to a rebuilding franchise like the Spurs, but they would much rather get a more immediate pick in 2022 or 2023.
With young talents like Dejounte Murray, Derrick White, Keldon Johnson and Lonnie Walker IV, this team is going to continually improve as the season goes on and they could once again become a playoff threat within the next year or two.
Getting a future first-round pick does little good to help their rebuild right now, which is why Washington may not have the assets to trade for Thaddeus Young. Davis Bertans is not really a player that would fit in with the San Antonio Spurs either.

Bertans’ contract is not favorable to virtually any team in this league. With no opt-out clauses for the team, Davis Bertans is set to collect in-full on this contract, which is something San Antonio would not want to be tied down to over the next four years.

Maybe assets like Thomas Bryant, Deni Avdija or rookie Isaiah Todd could get a deal done between the Washington Wizards and San Antonio Spurs, but this trade outlined above is certainly one that the Spurs would opt to decline.
