Does this trade make sense for the Washington Wizards?
Thaddeus Young has always been known to be a “traditional” big man who normally plays in the low-post with his back to the basket, but as time has gone on, he has transitioned into being an all-around playmaker at the power forward position.
Three-point shooting is not something he is known for, as he only shot 26.7% from deep last season, but he has shot 33.1% from three-point range over the course of his career.
Having the ability to stretch the floor as a frontcourt player in today’s NBA is extremely important and while he is not a big scoring threat from the perimeter, Young’s abilities to make plays for others is where he would fit in with Washington.
Running pick-and-roll sets with Bradley Beal, Spencer Dinwiddie, and Kyle Kuzma on the perimeter would open up the floor tremendously for the Washington Wizards and allow them to attack the basket with more ease than they already are. The Wizards currently rank 11th in the league in scoring and they would only be getting better with the addition of Thad Young.

Ranking 25th in the league in three-point shooting right now, the Wizards may not want to give up on Davis Bertans just yet, but they really need to consider doing so. His contract is not favorable whatsoever and quite honestly, it was puzzling to see them give him such a long-term deal last offseason.
While he can get hot from beyond the arc, Bertans is nothing more than a catch-and-shoot player in today’s NBA and is not going to evolve into a better offensive or defensive threat for that matter.

His upside is limited and he is owed too much money over the next few years, which is why Washington would be smart to try and trade him for a smaller, more effective contract.
