The Atlanta Hawks came into the 2021-22 season with some high expectations. After advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals in the 2021 postseason, they were a trendy pick to make some noise come the postseason again.
Well, at the rate they’re going at the start of the season, they will be lucky to make the postseason. Atlanta is currently 4-8 even on the outside looking in of the NBA Play-In Tournament.
The biggest issue for the team is their defense. It was an issue for the team last season and once again thus far this season. Even with De’Andre Hunter back in the lineup, the Atlanta Hawks are struggling to slow anyone down from scoring the ball.
The Hawks could certainly use more defensive-minded players on the team and Josh Hart would fit the bill. They were connected to some defensive-minded players in the offseason, but no moves were made. Looking to consolidate their roster, Atlanta would be smart to place a call to the Pelicans.

Josh Hart’s skill set would fit perfectly into their shooting guard rotation. They do not have many options to turn to defensively in the backcourt to pair with Trae Young currently. Their best defenders, Cam Reddish and Hunter, are both forwards.
Getting someone that can handle defending the point of attack better will help the Atlanta Hawks turn things around. Until they can accomplish that, they will continue losing more games than they win.
