Does this trade make sense for the Boston Celtics?

Out of all the deals in the world that the Boston Celtics could make, this is the last one they should consider. Not only is adding Ben Simmons and all of his drama a negative thing for this team, but trading away Jaylen Brown would be the worst move the Celtics could ever make.

There is just no way that Boston would trade a young All-Star and one of the biggest sports names in the city for Ben Simmons, a player the fan base is not fond of.

While he is and still can be a great player, the weight that comes with obtaining Simmons right now is just not worthwhile.

He essentially quit on the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason and there is no telling if he could do the same thing in Boston after a few months with this team. We saw the Celtics bring in Kyrie Irving a few years back and that experiment did not work, which is why they should not be looking to make the same mistake.

If anything, this is a lateral move for the Boston Celtics, but is probably a worse move in terms of total talent. Ben Simmons is a really strong defender and is a Defensive Player of the Year type of talent, but Jaylen Brown’s two-way play honestly trumps that of Simmons.

Now, if the Celtics could find a way to pair Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum with Ben Simmons, this may be a scenario that Boston would be interested in.

Having three young All-Stars to build around and become a defensive-minded team would be intriguing for sure, but this team really has nothing to gain by swapping Brown for Simmons.

While it was a different front-office last year, the Celtics declined to offer Jaylen Brown for James Harden when the Rockets were looking to move their MVP, so why on earth would they now want to move Brown for one of the biggest question marks in the NBA?

Ben Simmons is not nearly as good of a player as James Harden and quite honestly, he is not really better than Jaylen Brown right now. There are just no scenarios that could play out in which the Boston Celtics would “win” this trade with the 76ers, which is why they should walk away without putting their franchise in jeopardy.
