Would this trade make sense for the San Antonio Spurs?
It is going to be a bit more difficult for the San Antonio Spurs to compete in the Western Conference than it is for the Raptors to get back of the standings in the Eastern Conference. The Western Conference is superior and the top teams have just gotten better this year.
With that being said, it might not make sense for the Spurs to move one of their top players but they are in a bit of a rebuilding period. San Antonio lost DeMar DeRozan in free agency. They decided not to trade him during the year in hopes of making a postseason run.
Now, they could look to other pieces as trade bait. Dejounte Murray seems to be the biggest name they have on the trading market. In return, they would get the pieces that Toronto got from Miami.
Goran Dragic is a veteran guard that would bring experience to a young team but the appeal is his expiring deal that offloads future salary. Murray is more of a long-term piece when looking at his potential.

This might not be able to get San Antonio closer to a title, but it is one that would land then some assets for the future. In this current transition, the Spurs should worry about loading up on those assets and building something new.
