Does this trade make sense for the LA Clippers?
Dennis Schroder is definitely a player the LA Clippers could utilize in their second-unit, but they got Eric Bledsoe this offseason for this reason. Bledsoe is going to be the guy they turn to off-the-bench or in the starting lineup next to Reggie Jackson in their backcourt, so adding Schroder just creates a logjam for the Clippers.
Plus, getting rid of Nicolas Batum with Kawhi Leonard out means that the Clippers will be thin at both forward positions. Paul George is going to play a huge role on the wing this year and the team signed Justise Winslow in the offseason to help out, but Batum’s versatility in-or-out of the starting lineup cannot be replicated by anyone else right now.
Los Angeles is coming off a season in which they made it to the Western Conference Finals when very few people actually thought they had a shot to contend against the likes of the Lakers, Suns, and Jazz in the Western Conference.
This team is not too far off from making their first-ever appearance in the NBA Finals and while they will obviously need Kawhi Leonard healthy to do so, they will also need Nic Batum on the court for them. Between hitting threes, playing solid defense, and being an avid rebounder defensively, Batum does a little bit of everything to help the Clippers win games.

Trading him away from Dennis Schroder does not really bring any benefits to this LA Clippers’ organization, which is why they will be unwilling to move him at any point this season unless they are a part of a massive, blockbuster trade that lands them an All-Star talent to pair with George and Leonard like Bradley Beal.
