Does this trade make sense for the Golden State Warriors?

A healthy Kristaps Porzingis certainly fits the Golden State Warriors’ needs in their frontcourt, but at the same time, if the Warriors did actually want him, they would have traded for him this offseason.

Golden State had two lottery picks in this year’s draft and there was heavy speculation that they would look to move these draft picks to add another player right now to help contend for a championship.

Ultimately, Golden State kept both lottery picks and drafted Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody, two young assets for this team to develop for the future.

Of course, Bob Myers and the Warriors’ front-office wants to contend for a title, but at the same time, player development and building for the future are essential for a team like Golden State.

LATEST NBA NEWS & RUMORS: This Jazz-Warriors Trade Is Focused On Andrew Wiggins

Stephen Curry is 33-years-old and both Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are 31-years-old. All three guys could very much still be in the primes of their careers, but at some point, this team needs to be able to have reliable young talents to turn to behind their veterans.

Andrew Wiggins, James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga, and Moses Moody are just four of these young guys who are continuing to get better every single day they play against guys like Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, and even Andre Iguodala in practices, which is why giving up on them for an injury-prone big man like Kristaps Porzingis may not be the best move.

LATEST NBA NEWS & RUMORS: This Jazz-Warriors Trade Is Focused On Andrew Wiggins

In terms of offensive talent and being a stretch big man, Porzingis is the perfect mold for a big man in the Warriors’ system, but at the same time, giving up Wiggins and Wiseman is a lot more value than someone would think.

Golden State is going to be a championship contender again, if they can stay healthy, with the current team they have. Trading for Kristaps Porzingis just ties them down more financially and sacrifices some of their future in the process, which is why the Warriors should stay away from this trade all year long.
