Best Trade Destination No. 1: Portland Trail Blazers

Ben Simmons may not want to be traded to the Portland Trail Blazers because of off-the-court reasons. It has been reported that as a young socialite, Portland isn’t where he wants to be. However, on the court, they would be an excellent match.

The Trail Blazers are an elite offensive team. If Simmons was willing to play more in the frontcourt, they would remain at that level. Portland would have an elite scoring guard in the starting five, either Damian Lillard or CJ McCollum, whoever isn’t traded for him. Norman Powell could slide into the shooting guard spot, providing better balance to the roster.

Defensively, Simmons would be a godsend for Portland. For as elite as their offense was, their defense was poor. They had the second-worst defensive rating in the NBA behind only the Sacramento Kings.

Simmons would assuredly help turn that around. His acquisition would give the Trail Blazers three plus defenders, in addition to Powell and Robert Covington, to help slow down opponents. Simmons’s versatility would be helpful as he can slow down any opponent regardless of position.

Portland should be pushing hard to acquire Simmons. The team failed to make a splash this offseason despite being eliminated in the first round in four out of the last five years. Adding Simmons to the mix could provide the team that piece to help take them over the top.
