Luke Walton, Sacramento Kings
Luke Walton had to hear about his job status throughout the season last year. The Sacramento Kings finished 31-41 and missed the postseason for the 15th straight season. Walton might be the head coach whose seat is the hottest heading into the season.
This is rightfully so but also a bit of a process of elimination. Many coaches in the league are new over the last year or two while there are some lifers who will not be fired under any circumstance. Walton falls in the middle. The Kings ranked dead last in defensive efficiency last season and have yet to improve during Walton’s tenure.
The Sacramento Kings brought in some new leadership in the front office the year after Walton was hired and they could be looking to make a change.
With two years remaining on his contract, Walton would not be a difficult coach to part ways with and replace. The Kings are not an intriguing job and the franchise is in a tough spot but Walton might be in over his head here.
