How This Trade Impacts Oklahoma City Thunder
The Oklahoma City Thunder are still in asset collection mode. They are a few years away still from contending in a loaded Western Conference and are hoping that the young players begin taking steps forward this season.
As things currently stand, the Thunder have one player locked into their long-term core; Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. He signed a max extension this offseason and the team needs to find players to add to the core along with him.
One of those players could be Cam Reddish. It would cost the Thunder one of their first-round picks, but it would be a worthwhile gamble for the team. Oklahoma City is lacking in long-term potential wing players and Reddish would provide that.
He has had a difficult start to his career, battling injuries and inconsistency. But, his performance in four games against the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference is evidence of the ceiling he has.

That ceiling is something the Thunder should be willing to be on in this scenario. While it can be argued that Luguentz Dort has had a better start to his career, there is no doubt that Reddish has a higher ceiling given the two-way potential that he has.
Swapping Dort and a future first-round pick for Reddish is the type of move a rebuilding team such as the Thunder should make. Cash in on Dort’s accomplishments for a potential higher-impact player.

The former Duke product would be afforded the chance to develop and receive playing time that he may not be able to get with the Hawks. Landing in Oklahoma City could be exactly what Reddish needs to see his career blossom and take off.
