How This Trade Impacts Atlanta Hawks
One of the goals the Atlanta Hawks had, should they move some of their players, was long-term flexibility. Cam Reddish was one of the players that were mentioned as possible trade bait, and in this deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder, he is on the move.
The Hawks were looking for a first-round pick in exchange for him, even if it was a late first-rounder. They accomplish that, as they get one of the infinite first-round picks that the Thunder have acquired in recent years. It is a first-round pick via the Denver Nuggets, so it is likely to be near the end of the first round.
In addition to the pick, the Hawks are also acquiring Luguentz Dort from the Thunder. Dort is the exact kind of player that the Hawks should be targeting, as they need some help on the defensive side of the ball.
Dort has already proven that he can be an excellent on-ball defender. The Hawks now have another player, along with De’Andre Hunter, that they can depend on to defend the perimeter. Dort can help cover up the shortcomings of Trae Turner on that end of the court, taking the tougher of the two backcourt assignments each night.

The Arizona State product has also improved on his 3-point shooting. Continuing to improve in that area will help the team’s offense as defenses will not be able to shade off of him to help clog the lane.
Atlanta also saves a little bit of money by swapping out Reddish for Dort, which is a win for them. The Hawks are happy about this trade, but how do the Thunder feel? Let’s take a look at it from their perspective.
