How This Trade Impacts Dallas Mavericks

A secondary ball-handler to take pressure off of Luka Doncic is the only thing the Dallas Mavericks came into the offseason looking to acquire but were unable to accomplish. While it seems counteractive to take the ball out of Doncic’s hands, the Mavericks were relying on him too much to carry the team.

Adding someone that could help run the offense and get him opportunities off the ball more, made sense. Coby White would fit that need perfectly.

White is big enough that he can play either guard position, standing 6’5”. He would bring some playmaking to the table, which would help Jason Kidd put Doncic in different positions offensively, making them even more dangerous.

If the Mavericks chose to have White come off the bench, he could provide instant offense for the team as well. He has the potential to become a solid shooter, as he has made 35.7 percent of his 3-point attempts thus far in his career and averaged 14.2 points.

The cost to acquire him isn’t too expensive either. Moses Brown is likely the team’s third-string center and White is an upgrade on Trey Burke. The two second-round picks are fair draft compensation as White is recovering from injury. Expecting a first-round pick in exchange for him would be unrealistic.

This would be a nice addition to the Mavericks backcourt, as White is the exact type of player the team was looking for this offseason.
