How This Trade Impacts Atlanta Hawks
With the level of talent on offense the Atlanta Hawks now possess, there isn’t a significant need to keep Danilo Gallinari going forward. He has made a helpful impact during his time with the team but at 33-years-old, he’s not part of the future.
The Hawks made a major financial commitment to John Collins by re-signing him this offseason and have no shortage of young wing players. Parting with Gallinari could help to clear room to fully embrace Collins and these younger options.
There is a benefit to this trade for the Hawks by bringing in Maxi Kleber as a stopgap option. He can defend multiple positions while being a reliable catch-and-shoot threat. No team can have too many players with a set of intangibles that fit the mold.
Dwight Powell has shown to be a legitimate lob threat and is a highly effective rim-roller, in general. Alongside a playmaker like Trae Young, he could thrive just as he did setting screens and rolling with Luka Doncic.
