Dallas Mavericks Receive: F Danilo Gallinari, F Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot
Atlanta Hawks Receive: F Maxi Kleber, C Dwight Powell
In this hypothetical swap between the Dallas Mavericks and Atlanta Hawks, there is shuffling of each team’s frontcourt going on. Both teams address some needs in this deal.
The Mavericks receive Danilo Gallinari, who gives them another option to deploy in their frontcourt. While not the best defensive option, Gallinari would provide the team with another reliable scoring option from the frontcourt, something they are lacking beyond Kristaps Porzingis.
Joining him is Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot. He will add some depth on the wing for the Mavericks, who are unloading a lot of frontcourt depth in this deal.
Maxi Kleber and Dwight Powell are both on the way to the Hawks in this swap. For Atlanta, they don’t offer as much salary cap relief as they were hoping for, but they do improve the balance on the team.

Atlanta has plenty of offensive weapons but could use more players that get after it defensively. Kleber brings a nice blend of rim protection and 3-point shooting to the roster. He can play either power forward or center, giving Nate McMillan some options when making lineup combinations.
Powell is a steady performer that can also play either frontcourt spot. He is an efficient scorer that produces above league-average player efficiency. He and Kleber give the team a different look at the power forward spot, as they are both better defenders than Gallinari.

Defense is something Atlanta needs more of. Gallinari was a steady source of points for the second unit, but improving defensively can help Atlanta take their game to the next level.
