Why Minnesota Timberwolves Do This Trade

A team such as the Minnesota Timberwolves trading away draft picks is a bit surprising to see. They could use those picks to fill out their roster, but if their recent moves are any indication, they are looking to bring in veterans to help change the culture of the team.

In this deal, they would accomplish just that for their frontcourt. Thaddeus Young is a well-respected veteran in the NBA. He could slide right into the starting power forward spot alongside Karl-Anthony Towns.

He would provide toughness and a defensive presence that Minnesota is lacking on the interior. His style of play would mesh well with Towns, who is one of the most offensively-gifted big men in the NBA with his ability to dominate both inside and out.

Thaddeus Young adopted a point-forward role for the Chicago Bulls last season, something that would also help Minnesota. It never hurts to have more players willing to move the ball and find the open man on offense. The former Georgia Tech product is as steady as they come, averaging double-digit points for 13 consecutive seasons.

Combined with Patrick Beverley, who is in the process of being acquired from the Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota would be getting two solid veterans that can set an example for the younger players to learn from and start turning things around for the franchise.
