Ben Simmons vs. 76ers management

There really is not much else to talk about in terms of “pure drama” in the NBA other than what has transpired in Philadelphia these last 12 or so weeks.

When the 76ers lost in Game 7 of their Eastern Conference Semifinals series to the Hawks, a lot of the blame was put on Ben Simmons and head coach Doc Rivers seemed to “escalate” the situation by stating that he did not know whether or not Simmons could be a championship-level point guard for the team. 

The 3x All-Star did not seem to take kindly to his head coach’s words, along with some other things with the Philly media and fans, which has resulted in him requesting a trade from the team.

The Sixers want Ben Simmons to report to the team though and begin the season with them, most likely since they have been unable to get the kind of return they want in a trade focused on their All-Star 7-footer.

This whole situation between Simmons and the 76ers is crazy and there appears to be no end in sight unless a team offers the 76ers an “irresistible” trade offer right now.

Ben Simmons is currently holding out and has not reported to the team’s facilities for training camp and he is declining to talk with anyone from the team.

He may still be a “member of the Philadelphia 76ers,” but Ben Simmons has packed up his belongings and is ready to move on to the next chapter in his NBA career. What happens with the Sixers and Simmons truly is the main storyline to keep tabs on as we get ready to begin the 2021-22 season.
