How This Trade Impacts Brooklyn Nets
The Brooklyn Nets are in quite a conundrum. They are not going to force Kyrie Irving to get the COVID-19 vaccine, but his decision to remain unvaccinated will have consequences. There are strict protocols in place for unvaccinated players and he would forfeit all of his money for games missed because of it.
Brooklyn would have to think long and hard about what to do if he remains unvaccinated. They cannot afford to have him miss half the season, as he would not be allowed to participate in games at the Barclays Center.
While his trade value is reportedly nonexistent, the Nets may have to try their hand. It is something Kevin Durant may not be happy about, but if he was making all of the decisions, DeAndre Jordan would still be on the roster taking up nearly $10 million of salary-cap space.
This would be a solid trade package for the Nets to receive should Irving get put on the trade block. Their rotation would be stronger and they would become a more balanced, two-way team. Malcolm Brogdon is a huge improvement defensively over Irving and would fit in well as a third option offensively.

Myles Turner would give the Nets an elite rim protector defensively. He led the NBA with 3.4 blocks per game last season and altered countless more every game. Turner also wouldn’t hurt the team on offense, as he is a capable 3-point shooter and has shown some solid handles as well.
Being able to get some stops defensively would take pressure off of the team to have to play flawlessly on the offensive side. Not to mention, the team would also have a first-round pick to facilitate another trade or add a young, cost-efficient player to the roster via the draft.

If Irving’s trade value is as low as being reported, this would be a strong package for them to get in return for him from Indiana.
