How This Trade Impacts Minnesota Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been on the lookout for a power forward throughout the offseason and they found one in this deal. Danilo Gallinari would be a good fit in the frontcourt alongside Karl-Anthony Towns offensively.

He would help space the court even more for Anthony Edwards to attack the basket. Given Towns’ skills on the interior or perimeter, Minnesota’s offense would become a lot more dynamic with the flexibility it would have.

However, there would be some shortcomings to adding Gallinari to the rotation. The Timberwolves already aren’t a strong defensive team and he would not help improve that. Teams would have a field day running pick-and-roll action against him.

But, the team is looking for a veteran power forward and Gallinari would fit the bill. The addition of Gorgui Dieng doesn’t move the needle too much. He would likely be stuck behind Naz Reid, Jarred Vanderbilt and Jaden McDaniels in the pecking order for minutes in the frontcourt at the very least.

Minnesota would be taking on a little extra money in this deal, as Gallinari’s contract runs one season longer than everyone else’s in this deal. However, that may not necessarily be a bad thing, as they could flip him next season for assets as an expiring deal if it doesn’t work out in Minnesota.
