What does JaVale McGee bring to the Phoenix Suns?
Among all of the signings in the offseason, one of the most underrated signings to me was the Phoenix Suns adding JaVale McGee.
During the Suns’ run to the NBA Finals, one of the glaring weaknesses for them was the lack of size behind Deandre Ayton.
Once Ayton left the floor, the Suns were easily taken advantage of in the paint by opposing teams as they deployed Dario Saric and Frank Kaminsky as their backup centers. While McGee isn’t going to score a ton of points, he gives the Suns rebounding and rim protection off of the bench.
Even while averaging 14.7 minutes per game at 33 years old last season, McGee still posted 5.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game off of the bench.

McGee’s skill set should be invaluable for a Phoenix team that desperately needed a backup center this offseason.
