Dallas Mavericks Receive: G Eric Gordon, HOU 2024 2nd Round Pick

We have gone over some Eric Gordon to the Dallas Mavericks trade scenarios before, but the Mavericks really do seem like the best fit for him. Dallas needs more talent around Luka Doncic and while Gordon is not an All-Star-level player, he is more than capable of contributing meaningful minutes in big games.

When you look at what the Mavericks did this offseason, it is clear to see perimeter shooting was a point of emphasis for them, as Reggie Bullock and Sterling Brown were their two big free-agent signings.

Plus, the team brought back Tim Hardaway Jr. Both Bullock and Brown shot over 40% from distance last year and while Eric Gordon is not the same three-point shooter as them statistically, he is still a reliable two-way player that can aid Dallas on the perimeter.

The shooting guard and small-forward positions have been the weakest links of the Dallas Mavericks over the years and adding Gordon for more depth and experience would be a really good move for Dallas, especially if they can unload the contract of Dwight Powell in the process.

For Houston, this trade is not too favorable in terms of adding Powell’s two years and $22.1M remaining on his contract, but the Rockets could use another experienced player in their frontcourt.

Christian Wood is their primary big man, but he missed a solid amount of time last season with some ankle issues and outside of newly added Daniel Theis, rookie Alpenen Sengun is the Rockets’ only other frontcourt option.

Dwight Powell is still looking to get his legs back after suffering an Achilles injury a couple of years back, but if he is healthy, he can definitely be a reliable rebounder and interior scorer for 10-15 minutes per game.

In terms of value, this is not the best deal the Rockets could probably get for Eric Gordon, but at the same time, they do two second-round picks to add to their draft capital, as well as two experienced players for their young locker room.
