How The Miami Heat Improved
The Miami Heat are a totally different team heading into the 2021-22 season than they were when the 2020-21 season concluded. Head coach Erik Spoelstra has to be happy with how much more depth there will be on this year’s team.
Kyle Lowry is a big upgrade at the point guard position, especially on defense. His approach to that end of the court will fit in perfectly with what Miami likes to do. Offensively, he is an excellent addition as well.
Lowry will take a lot of pressure off of Jimmy Butler, who was too often relied upon as the lead playmaker and shot creator. Having someone like Lowry in the starting five gives Miami someone who can initiate offense and score the basketball.
The additions of Markieff Morris and P.J. Tucker give Miami’s frontcourt some much-needed toughness and versatility. Morris can play either power forward or center, helping shore things up behind Bam Adebayo.

Tucker will help replace what the team lost when Jae Crowder signed with the Phoenix Suns as someone that can defend multiple positions and spread the floor with his 3-point shooting offensively.
The only thing really missing from the roster right now is a backup point guard. Kendrick Nunn is the only player that Miami lost in free agency that they did not yet replace. Trevor Ariza, Nemanja Bjelica and Andre Iguodala were all replaced in some capacity.
