How This Trade Impacts Washington Wizards
The Washington Wizards aren’t going to trade Bradley Beal unless they have to. They would love to keep him long-term, but if he doesn’t commit to that, they will be stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Would they run the risk of him leaving in free agency, walking while the Wizards receive no compensation? Or will they trade him at some point between now and the deadline to at least get something back in return?
Given the uncertainty of the situation, this would be a solid package to get in return for Beal. They would be getting a 25-year old multi-time All-Star and All-Defensive Team member in Ben Simmons. That is the kind of centerpiece organizations hope to get in a deal when trading away a superstar.
His acquisition would give the fan base some hope for the future, as Simmons has the tools to become one of the best players in the NBA. Getting out of Philadelphia and finding his confidence offensively could catapult him into the level of true superstardom.

Tyrese Maxey has the tools and skillset to develop into a very good backcourt player. If he doesn’t develop his point guard abilities enough to earn a starting spot, he at least profiles as a high-scoring guard off the bench.
The draft picks would be a nice addition to the package as well. Washington would have a few more cracks at adding young, impact talent to the roster via the NBA Draft. Or, they could package some of those picks and the young players they already have to add an established player to the mix to help Simmons get the team over the top.

Trading away Beal would be a tough pill to swallow, but the pieces acquired in this deal would certainly soften the blow. It is better than him walking in free agency and the Wizards being left with nothing to feel good about.
