How This Trade Impacts Atlanta Hawks
The Atlanta Hawks are going to be evaluating their roster, pinpointing which of their young players they want to keep as their core going forward. They will not be able to keep them all, so some tough decisions will have to be made.
In this scenario, it is Cam Reddish whom the Hawks decide to move on from. Reddish has been popping up in trade rumors throughout the offseason. Atlanta was reportedly looking for a first-round pick in return to push a potential rookie extension down the road a little bit. They accomplish that goal in this deal.
Tyrese Maxey has three years remaining on his rookie deal, while Reddish only has two. That will give Atlanta a little more time to sort out their finances down the road as they start working on lucrative extensions for more of their players beyond Trae Young and John Collins.
From a roster standpoint, this trade makes sense for Atlanta as well. They have a ton of players they can deploy on the wings, evident by how well they played during the regular season and postseason, which Reddish missed large chunks of.

Swapping him out for a guard in Maxey could benefit the team. The Hawks have struggled to find someone that can run the show when Young is on the bench and Maxey could help provide that. He is a strong athlete that could give Atlanta some two-way play off the bench, something they are currently lacking.
Attaching a second-round pick with Reddish could be something Atlanta scoffs at, but the chance to balance out their rotation and fill a possible need makes this deal a worthwhile one. Now, let’s look at it from the 76ers’ perspective to see if they would be as positive about it.
