Does this trade make sense for Houston Rockets?
The Houston Rockets are going to be looking to move D.J. Augustin off their payroll and Danuel House Jr. does not hold much of a role in their rotations anymore either, which is why this trade makes sense for Houston. They essentially get a free season and look at Marvin Bagley III in their system to decide whether or not they want to keep him long-term.
Bagley is entering the final year of his rookie deal during the 2021-22 season, giving the Rockets all the long-term leverage on whether or not they want to keep him past this year or not. His numbers, when healthy, are not terrible whatsoever and given his athleticism at the power-forward position, Marvin Bagley III could fit right in with this young Houston team.
Not only has he been a reliable rebounder and low-post scorer in his short time in the league, but Bagley has also been effective in pick-and-roll sets not only as a roller, but as a player who can step out on the perimeter and knock down shots.
Marvin Bagley has shot 31.4% from three-point range for his career, which is not great, but he shot a career-high 34.3% from deep last season. As an athletic big man who can play in the starting-unit or off-the-bench, the Rockets would be very smart to invest in Bagley at this price.

As for investing in him for the future, a lot would depend on the fit and how he plays during the 2021-22 season, but overall, Marvin Bagley III would be a very strong investment for the Houston Rockets to make ahead of the start of the new season.
