How This Trade Impacts Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers will have to decide what to do with Collin Sexton sooner than later. If they are unable to agree on a contract extension to keep him in town, exploring a trade again would make some sense.
Given his minuscule contract, as he finishes up his rookie deal, it won’t be hard to find a salary to match. But, finding what the Cavaliers would deem as fair value could be tougher. This trade package from the Spurs would be about as good as it gets for Sexton alone.
The one area that the Cavaliers are lacking a building block in is the wing. They could also use some better 3-point shooting and they would get both in Devin Vassell. Vassell has the look of a two-way wing and coming out of Florida State, you know he will get after it defensively.
He could be Cleveland’s long-term answer at the small forward position. Becoming a reliable 3-point shooter looks like a promising outcome as Vassell made 34.7 percent of his 3-point attempts as a rookie. Darius Garland and Evan Mobley can be the go-to scorers for this group eventually with Vassell playing a complementary role.

He and Isaac Okoro could combine to be one of the best young defensive duos on the perimeter. When you add in the rim protection of Jarrett Allen, the Cavaliers are shaping up to have a solid defensive team.
A starting five of Garland, Okoro, Vassell, Mobley, and Allen is something Cavaliers’ fans can get excited about as the foundation of their future. The 2022 first-round pick will give them a chance to add another youngster to that mix or flip for an established veteran to help get this rebuild moving in the right direction.
