Does this trade make sense for Memphis Grizzlies?
Malik Beasley has definitely proven that he can be a factor offensively, but he may not be the best trade target for the Memphis Grizzlies. Not only is he owed $46.3M over the next three seasons, tying up some of Memphis’ available cash funds over the next few years, but Beasley’s sample size of productivity is very small.
While he has played well in Minnesota, Beasley has only played in 51 total games for the Timberwolves. Before going to Minnesota, Malik Beasley was a very streaky player in Denver, so Memphis would be rolling the dice in acquiring him, especially since he is under contract for so long. There is no getting out of his contract if the Grizzlies were to trade for him, which is why this trade may not make much sense.
Moving Kyle Anderson and Tyus Jones could definitely be something the Grizzlies look to do seeing as they are in the final years of their contracts, but at the same time, Memphis is going to have a lot of cap space to play around with in free agency next offseason after all the moves they made this summer.
The Grizzlies currently only have $77.2M tied down to their payroll for the 2022-23 season, meaning that they could potentially make a lot of moves next offseason to get Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. the help they need.

Plus, Jackson Jr. is going to be a restricted free agent at the conclusion of this upcoming season, meaning the Grizzlies will need cap space to play around with.
Acquiring Malik Beasley immediately fills the open space they have over the years, which is why trading for him may not make much overall sense.
GM Zach Kleiman has done a fantastic job building this Grizzlies roster over the years and he has made all the right moves this offseason to set his organization up for a lot of long-term success, which is why this trade does not make the most sense for Memphis.
