Does this trade make sense for Minnesota Timberwolves?

Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards, and D’Angelo Russell are the three core players for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Malik Beasley is a secondary talent that is moveable and by trading him away to Memphis, Minnesota can add two key talents to their second unit, which is one of the weakest in the league right now.

The Timberwolves still have moves to make before the start of the season, as they only have 10 guaranteed contracts on their roster, but they really need to focus on adding more talent to their bench since Patrick Beverley and Taurean Prince are their only reliable secondary players right now.

Kyle Anderson can not only help Minnesota get better defensively, but he would give the Timberwolves another player to utilize on the wing, where they are at their weakest.

Anderson is now a 7-year veteran in this league that has evolved into a player that can shoot, rebound, facilitate and be a factor on defense, which is why the Timberwolves should be interested in adding him in a trade involving Malik Beasley.

Tyus Jones is not a high-upside player, but in a backcourt with Russell and Beverley, Jones would provide some stability and another reliable ball-handler should D’Angelo Russell or Patrick Beverley get hurt.

The best part about acquiring both of these guys is that they are both in the final years of their contracts, allowing Minnesota to have all the leverage in terms of future contracts.

While they would take in an extra $3.2M in salaries for the 2021-22 season, the Timberwolves would free up just under $15M in cap space to play around with next offseason, potentially getting Towns and Edwards another high-level talent to play with.

If they want to move on from Malik Beasley, this trade with the Memphis Grizzlies is a very underrated deal for the Timberwolves, which is why acquiring Kyle Anderson, Tyus Jones and a second-round pick in 2022 could definitely make sense.
