Does this trade make sense for Portland Trail Blazers?
Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum have made up one of the league’s better backcourts over the years, but their time could be coming to an end.
Portland must know that they need to make a big move to get Damian Lillard some more help so he will stay long-term and unfortunately, the only way to do this is to trade CJ McCollum while his value is at its highest.
This trade is not bad at all for Portland, as they would end up with Myles Turner and TJ Warren, two guys who not only have a repertoire together from spending the last two seasons together but could bring better offense and better defense to the Portland Trail Blazers roster.
Overall, Portland is not a bad team roster-wise, but they do need some more high-level players who can aid in scoring and defense. Both Turner and Warren can do this if they are healthy and they can do so at a very high level. Myles Turner has led the league in blocks twice in his first six seasons in the NBA and TJ Warren proved to be an impactful two-way wing during the 2019-20 season.

Warren only played in 4 games last year due to a foot injury that required surgery, but when he is fully recovered from this injury, he and Norman Powell could be two key talents on the wing for the Blazers.
Plus, if TJ Warren does not work out, he is set to be a free agent at the conclusion of the 2021-22 season, giving Portland a chance to possibly add another key talent to pair with Lillard.
By moving McCollum in this trade, the Trail Blazers would actually have a better roster, especially since they could bring guys like Larry Nance Jr. and Jusef Nurkic off-the-bench, while still having Robert Covington as a two-way player at the power forward position.

This trade makes the Blazers better defensively and offers more versatility on offense, which is why it does actually make some sense.
